Review by Brian McLean
After a brief live performance hiatus Brain Ticket recording artist Blood of the Sun returned to the Wreck Room in Fort Worth for a one night performance before drummer Henry Vasquez leaves for a six week European tour stint with Debris Inc.
BoTS was the first of the three-band bill to play but left the remaining two acts, Dallas locals Max Cady and California based Drunk Horse, the unpleasant chore of following BoTS and making sure their sets would match what the Sun offered.
With one release under their belt, BoTS pulled seven of the nine songs in their set from the self titled debut album as well as an unreleased eight minute plus original titled “Burning” and “Melvin laid an Egg," a Bloodrock cover.
The unreleased opening song “Burning” which has only been played several times live and the heavy rock sound BoTS is becoming known for quickly gained the attention of the fans in attendance and drawing to the stage like a hypnotic force.
Flanked by two Les Paul guitarist, vocalist Mark Zammeron guided BoTS as a stoner rock spell fell over the crowd with “Hell on its Knees," “Past the Dawn," “Kill the Swan," “Beyond the Cold," “Never to Say," “Dusk,” and several others including the Bloodrock cover.
By the end of the set, the crowd was well aware of the live music power the Sun can produce with heavy influences on the guitar riffs, heavy bass sound and keyboards. The feedback and appreciation from the crowd was evident.
Max Cady and Drunk Horse both delivered solid sets, but it was the Sun that was the shinning star of the night.
