A lesson in the ways of the old school was the topic of the night at the Phoenix Music Complex courtesy of the recently reformed Rotting Corpse.
The Texas based thrashers pulled songs
from their ‘Demos’ CD such as “Neck Breaking Fury,"
“War on Drugs,” and the set opener “Rotting Corpse”
schooling the attendees in straight forward no frills thrash metal.
As a staple of a Rotting Corpse set, there was plenty of on stage humor and lack of seriousness that breaks up the monotony of a nothing but serious live set. There was plenty of comic relief in other words.
The bonus came during the last song, their cover version of ACDC’s “Walk All Over You,” when front man Walt Traschler busted in half his second guitar of the night. It was a move that was not expected by anyone in the audience or Traschler himself but it capped off a very interesting set.
It’s a guitar Traschler has been playing for 20 years with breaks here and there but not one as severe.
Whether the Rotting Corpse virgins in the crowd learned anything about the old school is yet to be seen and will be determined when the Corpse returns for a follow up.
